Meet Your Admissions Rep: Katie Dobbs

I was raised in the small, but ever-growing Camden County, located in the most southeastern corner of Georgia, right on the coast and on the Florida line. I was born in Jacksonville, FL and moved to St. Marys, Georgia, when my dad, who is an industrial engineer, took a job at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. It was a wonderful place to spend my childhood and very much embodies the small “home-town where everyone knows everyone” way of life!
I grew up on the water, whether it was the beach or taking the boat out on the river, and I must admit, being away from it is one of my only major complaints about Atlanta! My immediate family is all still there. I’m fortunate to have an amazing set of parents and the best brother and sister a girl could ask for. I acquired three new brothers, a sister-in-law, and now two nieces when my mom re-married. A “full house” takes on a whole different meaning with my family!
I went to college in Athens, Georgia, the best college town in the country. Go Dawgs! I never wanted to leave, which made my graduation rather bittersweet. I graduated in August of 2007 with a B.A. in Communication and also just finished my certificate program in Event and Meeting planning at Kennesaw State University. I took my last two classes of my undergrad studying abroad in Paris, not a bad way to go out!
Living in France was the best experience of my life; I would go back in a heartbeat. The culture, sights, and even the people were amazing. Having class in a rose garden next to Notre Dame really widens your perspective! While in Europe, I also traveled to Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Cinque Terre, Normandy, and did a wine and chateau tour through the Loire Valley of France.
After coming back to the States, I stayed in Athens for fall football season and soaked up the college life for just a little while longer. Alas, I couldn’t do that forever, and I moved to Atlanta in December. I have really enjoyed it here, except for the traffic!
I’m so happy to be working at Portfolio Center. It is a rewarding job in a wonderful atmosphere; I’m continually amazed by the students’ work!
When I’m not in my office, I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, hanging in the Highlands, a good book, UGA football, and of course spending time with my beloved cat, Calla.
