Tex Grubbs

Portfolio Center Illustration grad Tex Grubbs built his new website to be completely illustrated, including the type. He wanted a site that was unique, fun, and whimsical—one that would amuse visitors as it communicated who he is and what kind of work he does. It has been five months in the making so far, and he’s not quite finished. Among other tweaks, he hopes to add sound.

The site is downright enchanting, with its little monster, dubbed Grubbs—more fun than you might expect from someone with a Government and Business degree. Even while earning that degree at the University of Texas, Tex knew he’d end up being an artist. School was easy for him, though, and he picked the quickest route from freshman to graduate, bypassing an art program he felt focused less on the art of art and more on abstract self-expression.

From UT, Tex (his given name) came to Portfolio Center to get serious about illustration. Two years later, he has a bionic portfolio and a reputation for being ideal to work with—laid-back and easy-going, yet tenaciously committed to whatever project is at hand. Cool and responsible, such a rare combination.

Look for big things to happen in his future.
