Early Buzz: GOLD

Portfolio Center photography students are creating the gallery of images for the upcoming GOLD exhibit at Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

We’re very excited about this unique, real-world opportunity, especially since it’s the first time a school has partnered creatively with Fernbank in this way. The exhibit’s curators have given the students a lot of latitude to interpret the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of ‘gold,’ so the images—which will hang in the show’s entrance gallery and set the tone for the exhibit—include everything from mining to gold medalists to golden light.

sushistyle

Check out Atlanta designer, Portfolio Center alum, and current PC instructor Mimi Tin’s latest (ad)venture. Her new line of sushi-inspired ottomans were a project ten years in the making. The first prototype was made after she took the Design History class during her fifth quarter as a student here at school. The time from then to now has been spent making contacts, finding sourcing agents, advisers, lawyers, gaining experience as a designer, and learning the business and marketing side. Below, you can see the evolution, from initial concept to polished product:
