Emerging Visions

Last night I attended the opening show of “Emerging Visions” at the Atlanta Photography Group on Bennett Street. Our own Amelia Alpaugh and Artem Nazarov were well represented and their work looked fantastic in a gallery setting. I hope we see more of that from them as well as our other PC photogs. Also represented was the work of our own Michael West  on the ‘professional wall.’ Michael’s work and vision has brought a whole new aesthetic and point of view to the work being produced by our students, and I thank him for that. A Visit to Southern Progress

It was a remarkable day, to say the least. It certainly opened up a world of “WOW! I would love to work here”… and gave great insight into how a magazine works and is designed and what the culture is that makes culture. Lots of questions were asked and the presentations were super.

The Photography News Keeps Coming

What was it Uncle Billy said to Mr. Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” when Harry Bailey won the Congressional Medal of Honor? “You just can’t keep those Baileys down, can you?” Well, the same applies to our PC photographers. Hot on the heals of winning big earlier this month in CMYK, American Photographer and SPD, two of our photographers, Amelia Alpaugh and Artem Nazarov (the new “A” Team), have made the news in the ‘Emerging Visions’ section of the Atlanta Photography Group. More than any other single school, I was just noticing.

Way to go, A&A!

CDC Trip

A group of Portfolio Center students, faculty, and alumni had the pleasure of a private tour of the 30 projects that make up Design for the Other 90%, a traveling exhibit curated by Cynthia Smith under the auspices of the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Museum. Currently showing at the CDC’s Health Odyssey Museum in Decatur, the exhibit highlights design innovations that are helping improve living conditions in developing countries.
