Here I am, starting work early on a rainy gray Sunday morning, just before light…sitting at Starbucks, and voila! When I open up my first email it’s to the greeting of “Hi! Hank… I want to give you a B~~I~~~G hug. I miss you…Poom” and that followed by,”It’s true, you are the first. Not sure I want to give you a B~~I~~G hug, but I do miss you, Hank… As always you will be the first to know of any new news… we are going to ‘thai,’ the knot. Mike.”

So, Once Upon A Time… and just like that, the NEWS of Mike and Poom (officially Sutasinee) announcing their engagement and yet another Portfolio Center marriage is set into motion. It all began back in Atlanta with Sylvia and the delicious apple— cutting paper, telling stories of animals and civilizations, slinking into a seminar, then the thunderclap class with lightning all around of mine at 5:30 a.m., and creating stories which lead to more stories, and for these two, a few sessions working with Tania on developing their thinking curve, or toward the end, meetings in counsel with Melissa early on Thursday mornings…

I can’t count how many of these wonderful stories have followed this path and ended in Portfolio Center marriages—many over the years… Hartmut and Stephanie, Linda and Chris, Sally and Elliott, Brandi and Ryan, Megan and Jeff, LeNoir and Avery, Elizabeth and Ryan, David and Barbra, Robert and Kate, Kevin and Jamie. And there are more… many, many more.

Talk about cross platforming: writer to designer, designer to designer, designer to art director. Just throw out the titles—it is about creativity at its best centered.

And add to that, it is just as amazing as how everyone comes here from different parts of the world. Poom came from Thailand and Mike was from Minnesota, two geographical opposites and on different sides of the world… the experience after graduation took Poom back to Thailand, working for the international firm of Leo Burnett, and Mike is in Boston, working for the avant garde Modernista (you might have even have read in a former diablogue of Mike’s work on the new global Business Week magazine launch).
