NY Portfolio Review ‘07

I thought you all might enjoy a quick look at the graduate review held at the American Association of Architects Center for Architecture in NYC this past Friday. Our cowboys and hot rods did great presenting to on average 20-25 each all through the day. There was no time for lunch… it was wall to wall.

Companies came from as far north as Canada, and from Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Dallas, L.A., Cincinnati, and New York. We saw representatives from Martha Stewart, Conde Nast, Arnold, Leo Burnett, Victoria’s Secret, Dianne Von Furstenberg, Carbone Smolan, Landor, Publicis, Avenue A Razorfish, Y&R, Grey Global, Ogilvy, and NY Times, just to name a few.

We started at 11 a.m. sharp and ended at 7:30 pm., so you might only imagine students were worn out but very happy by the end of the day. They had never seen this sort of engagement before. And note, a good many are being brought back in for follow-up interviews, beginning today.

I heard from most everyone how amazingly prepared these students were both in their portfolios being street ready and in their ability to articulate their projects and stories.

Everyone made it timely—well, with one exception: somebody (who shall not be named) took the subway the wrong way but was there an hour and a half later—razor sharp, on their toes, and on their best behavior.

You would have been so proud of their efforts and how they handled themselves. I surely was.

Hank.
