Places to Explore

Edward DeBono, perhaps the leading expert on creativity in the world (and not just in our areas, but in the largest sense of the word), writes:

Thank goodness the brain is designed to be uncreative. With eleven items of clothing to put on there would be 39,916,800 ways of getting dressed. The brain is designed to make patterns, to use them and to stick to them. That is why we can get dressed, eat breakfast, cross the road, and do more or less useful work when we get to the office. A Letter, Maria

Who would’ve thought, walking in the door of Portfolio Center… that your dreams really can meet your expectations, that what seems ordinary one day will become extraordinary… and that at the end of it all—you can have so much more than a job—that the work you do every day can be exciting; it can be the thing that makes you happiest. Brad Gutting in CA

Portfolio Center alum Brad Gutting has some nice work in the current issue of Communication Arts. The ad campaign for Madison Mallards baseball was created while he was at Shine Advertising in Wisconsin.

His first position was at the design firm VSA Partners, and from there he moved on to Adamson Advertising, and next to Shine, before landing at his current position at Cannonball, in St. Louis.

So, with seven students out the door for winter quarter positions—AK headed to Crispin Porter Bogusky, Caroline and Mike off to Pentagram, Casey and Kevin starting at Unboundary, Ben en route to Abercrombie, and Hadi at …more

Alumni Reunion

It was amazing to visit with two outstanding alums who got back together here in Atlanta recently to catch up on their careers and lives, sharing a few Portfolio Center war tales—Alan Woodruff and Rebecca Cobb. How excited they were to see each other— seemed to me, however, they were not really that far from the very first day they first came to Portfolio Center, A theirs was a small and particularly close class. The ‘bond is always just that and the friendships— the friendship’s last forever— even as they spread out all over the globe.

For Alan and Rebecca, …more
