Whiz Kids

Someone mentioned to me today that it seems the average age of our students has gotten a little younger. He was right; it has! And I can tell you why: In the old days, boys and girls attempted to join the industry right after college. They’d usually go out and flounder around for a few years, testing the theory their professors had professed—that they were ready—adequately prepared—to go straightaway and get a job. Probably, they got a shitty little job, too, and hung there on the bottom rung until they came to their senses. Then they’d show up at our door. Now, colleges and universities encourage them to come our way early. And that’s huge—the acknowledgment by the colleges that this is the next step.

  1. Sweeeeet. What I find most interesting about the younger crowd is their ambitions towards exploration. As people get older, they tend to become more and more grounded in their beliefs through the need for structure, repetition and confirmed expectations. This makes it harder for them to really travel out of this comfort zone. I’m always interested to see what comes out these zany minds that don’t believe in “limited” possibilities.
